Panels

All of our panels this year are given by staff members of Animania and U-M students/alumni. We’ve been busy preparing a lot of great original content for you!

Lecture 1

12:30 – 1:30 p.m. — Love Wins: A Yuri Recommendations Panel

I’ve been a yuri fangirl for years, and it’s been so exciting to see the yuri genre’s enormous growth over the last decade. Whether you’re only vaguely interested in the genre or already obsessed, this panel aims to introduce you to more good examples of the amazing diversity of yuri manga and light novels, from isekai yuri to horror yuri to asexual yuri and more!

3:00 – 4:00 p.m. — Sounds in HoYoverse

Dig into the sound, music, and VA in games

5:00 – 6:00 p.m. — Gacha Obscura: An Ode to those Lesser-Loved Waifus (18+)

In belated honor of Valentine’s Day, let’s talk about those gacha game characters who don’t get as much love from the greater fanbase than their higher-rarity or stronger peers, but nevertheless deserve it! Whether they’re ranked F-tier and never get used in core gameplay, or have barely double-digit amounts of fanart in their tag, or are even trapped in NPC jail, refusing to ever become playable… this interactive panel hosted by two experienced simps is your chance to come up and share just what it is you find so amazing about them! What’s more, we’ve gone and developed a special methodology to distinguish the tip of the PNG iceberg from its abyss, so you’ll never be left wondering just how normie your interests are again! (UNFORTUNATELY, THIS IS SIMPLE ENTERTAINMENT AND NOT A REAL SCIENTIFIC STUDY)

6:00 – 7:00 p.m. — JDM and car culture (18+)

Car animes, mangas and JDM culture.

Lecture 2

12:30 – 1:00 p.m. — The Fantasy and Reality of Bionics (Prosthetic Limbs) In Anime, Manga, and Games

This panel delves into the specifics behind the physical mechanics of prosthetics and the psychological aspects surrounding the loss of limbs. I will be analyzing and ranking multiple anime, manga, and games, comparing them to how accurate they are to real life.

3:30 – 5:00 p.m. — 2024: Anime OP/ED in Review

Hi, it is your local anisong connoisseur speaking. Do you find yourself bopping to the Dandadan opening or make other people uncomfortable by playing Nokotan’s opening on loop? Well, then this is the perfect panel for you!

I heard all OPs/EDs of 2024 to give you some of the best and also worst songs 2024 anime has to offer! All sense of familliarity is welcomed!

6:00 – 7:00 p.m. — Bad Animes: The Necessary Evil (18+)

Do you ever feel tired of watching anime? Like sometimes, it feels like anime does not bring the same joy to you as it used to be? Well it might be because you don’t watch bad anime. Yes! Bad and Mediocre Animes!

We will delve deep on why bad animes might reinvigorate your love to animes and you may find some good recommendations. Come by and I will present some of my favourites. You can also talk with others about some bad animes that you think is peak.
